Tajik Foreign Minister meets UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe and the CIS States Cihan Sultanoğlu
Dushanbe, 13.06.2016. /NIAT «Khovar»/. The meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov with the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (RBEC) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Cihan Sultanoglu took place in Dushanbe today.
According to the Tajik MFA Information Department, during the meeting the issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the UNDP, including development and adoption of a new development strategy in Tajikistan until 2030 and High-Level Symposium on the SDG 6 and targets called Ensuring that no one is left behind in access to water and sanitation, which will be held from 9 to 11 August 2016 in Dushanbe, have been discussed.
Cihan Sultanoğlu is the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations; and Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (RBEC) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She was appointed to this position by the UN Secretary-General in April 2012.
Sultanoğlu has had many years of distinguished service at UN/UNDP, including leadership positions at the country and headquarters level. She previously served as the Director of Human Resources in UNDPs Bureau of Management. Prior to this, she served as Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Regional Director, RBEC (2007-2010); UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus (2004-2007); UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Lithuania (2000-2005); Deputy Resident Representative in Morocco (1995-2000); Deputy to the Director of the Office of the Administrator (1993-1995); Recruitment Officer and later Staffing Specialist for Junior Professional Officers (JPO), Division of Personnel (1988-1993); Recruitment Officer, Division of Personnel, (1986-1988); Administrative Officer, UNDP Malawi (1982-1985). She started her career as an administrative trainee in New York and Bangkok, Thailand (1981-1982).
