Tajik MP and British diplomat discussed CASA-1000 and combating against drug trafficking
Dushanbe, 07.10.2016 /NIAT “Khovar”/. The process of implementation of the CASA-1000 project has been discussed by the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of Majlisi namoyandagon Olimjon Salimzoda and Director of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom Michael Tatham on Thursday, October 6 here in Dushanbe.
According to the press service of Parliament, it was noted that the project will provide the transit of electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Besides, the parties have touched upon the issues of assistance provided by the United Kingdom to Tajikistan in combating drug trafficking.
The new system of transmission line (PTL), which will connect four countries and is called CASA-1000, will allow maximize and effectively use ecologically clean power resources in Central Asian countries, giving them the ability to transfer and sell summer surplus electricity to States in need in South Asia. In addition, the CASA-1000 project will support the actions of countries aimed at improving access to electricity, the integration and expansion of markets for trade development, as well as help to find sustainable solutions in the field of water resources management.
