Tajik Permanent Representative underlined the necessity to strengthen the cooperation on risks reduction and mitigation of consequences of natural disasters, with the United Nations as a coordinating center
Dushanbe, 13.10.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations, Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov, on October 10 has delivered a statement on sustainable development at the meeting of the 2nd Committee of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Tajik MFA Information Department, while speaking on the challenges which international community facing in achieving sustainable development, he highlighted the impact of climate change on increasing the frequency of natural disasters and the problems related to water. In this regard, he underlined the necessity to strengthen the cooperation on risks reduction and mitigation of consequences of natural disasters, with the United Nations as a coordinating center.
Highlighting water as the main component of development, Permanent Representative Mahmadaminov noted the significant progress which was achieved during the International Decade for Action “Water for life”, 2005-2015 and informed that the process of promotion of the draft resolution on proclamation of the new International Decade “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028” had already begun. The draft resolution will be submitted to the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly for consideration shortly.
