SCO and CSTO as guarantors of stability and security in Central Asia
DUSHANBE, 24.01.2017 /NIAT “Khovar”/. The roundtable entitled “SCO and CSTO as guarantors of stability and security in Central Asia” took place on January 21 at the Russian military base (RMB) in Dushanbe.
According to RMB statement, the roundtable was organized by RMB 201 together with the Development Fund “Institute of Eurasian Studies” in Tajikistan. It was attended by experts and students of such leading universities of Tajikistan, as a branch of Moscow State University, Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University, as well as the branches of Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys and Moscow Power Engineering Institute.
The participants visited the Museum of military glory RMB 201, which was opened in 2016 on the eve of Victory Day.
The Deputy Commander of the Reconnaissance Battalion on Educational Work of RMB 201 Vladimir Teterev noting the relevance and timeliness of the discussed problem, stressed that there is still a real danger from terrorist and extremist groups and we have to work together, to strengthen cooperation between SCO and CSTO member states in order to ensure peace, stability and security in the region. “Only joint cooperation is the key to success in the fight against external threats and challenges”, — emphasized Teterev.
At the roundtable the issues of security and stability in the region, as well as arising new challenges before SCO and CSTO member states were discussed.
The event was actively attended by students, considering such issues, as the role of the SCO in countering contemporary threats and challenges to security in Central Asia, the CSTO role in combating new threats, the CSTO peacekeeping role, the historical development and cooperation of the SCO and the CSTO.
