Discussion of Tajikistan International Water Initiatives in OECD Headquarters
DUSHANBE, 13.03.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On March 10, at the headquarters of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), representatives of the Embassy of Tajikistan in France met with experts on Water and Green Growth and Global Relations, Environment Directorate of OECD.
According to the Embassy of the country in Paris, at the meeting, Tajikistan Embassy presented a comprehensive information on international water initiatives of Tajikistan, in particular proposed by the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon proclaiming the “International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028”, and also importance of its implementation for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) was noted. It was stressed that cooperation between the countries in order to further implement the new water initiative of Tajikistan with the involvement of the OECD and its member countries is vital.
Representatives of the OECD noted that environmental issues and especially water agenda were among the organization’s priorities, and that cooperation in order to implement the latest initiative of Tajikistan was consistent with objectives of the OECD Council Recommendation on Water, which was developed and approved in December 2016.
