Foreign minister Aslov invites United Nations Secretary-General Guterres to visit Tajikistan
DUSHANBE, 22.03.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On March 21, in New York the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov met with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, MFA Information Department reports.
According to the ministry’s message, during the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs briefed the Secretary-General about Tajikistan’s efforts to prevent natural disasters in the country and the cooperation and assistance rendered by the relevant UN bodies to Tajikistan in this direction; fight against terrorists and extremists threats, as well as drug trafficking; to strengthen the country’s social and economic development within the framework of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, including the presentation of the National Development Strategy until 2030.
The sides also exchanged views on the rapid rehabilitation of peace and stability in Afghanistan and further cooperation in this direction.
A constructive discussion took place on the implementation of the Decade «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028», which was adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2016. The UN expressed its readiness to strengthen cooperation with Tajikistan in this matter.
At the end of the meeting, the Foreign Minister invited the Secretary General to visit Tajikistan.
