DUSHANBE, 19.06.2017. /NIAT «Khovar»/. The Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon received today the delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Directors.

The main topic of discussion included the current state and prospects for developing of bilateral financial cooperation between Tajikistan and ADB.

President of our country Emomali Rahmon in the course of the talks expressed his satisfaction over the 20 years of cooperation between Tajikistan and ADB, underlining that to date the Asian Development Bank has financed various social and economic spheres of Tajikistan in the amount of over 1.5 billion US dollars, and it has become the biggest development partner of the country.

Cooperation between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank in the areas of energy, transport and assistance in ensuring food security were identified as very promising for future interaction.

The realization of unused opportunities for improving bilateral relations was also considered necessary.

Support of transport infrastructure projects aimed at the development of regional trade, including the rehabilitation of the first phase of Obi Garm-Roghun-Nurobodi nav road section of Vahdat-Rasht-border with Kyrgyzstan (Vahdat-Qaramiq) highway, the project for rehabilitation and modernization of the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP), cooperation on implementation of other energy projects of Tajikistan which are of great importance for strengthening electricity production and transmission potential, expansion of regional cooperation and ensuring the socio-political stability of the region, attracting additional funds to eliminate the negative consequences of natural disasters in various regions of Tajikistan and addressing the issues related to financial stability and budget balance were considered among new mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

It was expressed confidence that through their joint efforts the two sides will achieve success in implementing bilateral objectives and further strengthening of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank.
