Tajikistan’s folk crafts week kicked off in the United Arab Emirates
DUSHANBE, 23.01.2018. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The week of the folk crafts of Tajikistan kicked off on January 21 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This event is dedicated to proclaiming 2018 as the Year of Tourism and Folk Crafts Development in Tajikistan and held at the initiative of Embassy and General Consulate of the Republic of Tajikistan in Dubai in cooperation with Sharjah Culture Department and Sharjah Institute for Heritage. NIAT “Khovar” has been reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The opening ceremony of the “Folk crafts week” was attended by representatives of the state bodies of the host country, ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Tajiks living in the UAE.
The week-long event will host a variety of activities reflecting the heritage of Tajikistan and explore the customs through handicrafts, textiles, carpets, traditional costumes, fabrics, pottery, and gems.
Authentic cuisine will be available offering popular dishes such as Oshi Palav, which in 2016 was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
Additionally, there will be folklore ensembles performing Tajik traditional music, song, and dance.
It should be noted that the week of the Tajik folk crafts in the United Arab Emirates will run until January 25.
