DUSHANBE, 26.04.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/.  The Embassy of Tajikistan in Ukraine held a briefing devoted to the launch of the UN General Assembly resolution entitled “International Decade for Action” Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.
A statement by the Tajik MFA Information Department Indicated that the head of the General Management for Services to Foreign Representative Offices Pavel Krivonos, representatives of the Ukraine Foreign Ministry, the diplomatic corps, international organizations and Ukraine’s mass media have participated in this event.

In a statement delivered at the meeting, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova Faizullo Holboboev reported on the initiative to declare the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development» was first proposed by the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon during the 7th World Water Forum in April 2015 in the Republic of Korea.

In accordance with this resolution, the period 2018-2028 is declared as the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development», started on the 22-nd of March 2018 and ends on the 22-nd of March 2028 (22 March — World Water Day).

Earlier, in 2003 the UN General Assembly approved a resolution at the initiative of Tajikistan, according to which the period from 2005 to 2015 was proclaimed as the International Decade for Action «Water for Life».

Later, another initiative of Tajikistan to declare 2013 the International Year of Water Cooperation was also approved within the framework of this decade.

The new Decade is the logical continuation of the International Decade for Action «Water for Life, 2005-2015», which promotes to achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development.

The Ambassador of Tajikistan briefly informed the audience about the objectives of the forthcoming High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development», to be held on 20-22 June 2018 in Dushanbe and had invited all interested parties, international organizations and interested people to take active participation in the work of aforesaid conference.
