Outcomes CICA Summit in Dushanbe Discussed in the OSCE Headquarters
DUSHANBE, 04.07.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday in Vienna, the Tajik Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation (FSC) convened a plenary meeting dedicated to the confidence and security building measures in Central Asia with a particular emphasis to the role of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in regional security.
Representatives of the CICA Secretariat headed by the CICA’s Executive Director Habibullo Mirzozoda served as keynote speakers, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mirzozoda delivered a comprehensive presentation on CICA’s main goals and tasks, as well as on the implementation of the Catalogue of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) by its member states.
He also focused on the outcomes of CICA’s fifth summit, which was held in Dushanbe on June 15 under the motto «Shared Vision for a Secure and More Prosperous CICA Region.»
He noted that the summit brought the development of cooperation within the organization to a qualitatively higher level.
During the general debates the delegations of the OSCE member states exchanged views on a wide range of issues relating to the confidence and security building measures in the OSCE region, with a focus on implementing the Vienna Document and the OSCE Code of Conduct.
It was stressed that the development and application of the security building measures within CICA is in many ways identical to the work carried out by the OSCE FSC.
This plenary meeting was the first among the FSC events scheduled for July on the topic of synergy among the regional organizations and the OSCE in Central Asia, outlined in the Program of the Tajik FSC Chairmanship.
