Tajikistan and Iran Discuss Utilization of Chabahar Seaport
DUSHANBE, 09.08.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – The current state and prospects for the development of cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran in the field of energy and water resources were discussed in Tehran at the meeting of Ambassador of Tajikistan to Iran Nizomiddin Zohidi with the Iranian Minister of Energy, co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan Riza Ardakanian.
The parties also noted the need for cooperation between the two countries in completing work in the Istiklol tunnel, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The officials also exchanged their views on the preparations for the upcoming 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran, which aims to strengthen mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.
Zohidi also met with the Minister of Transport and Urban Planning of Iran Muhammad Islami.
Interlocutors focused on cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran in the field of transportation and communication. The important role of the implementation of projects promoting the connection between the two countries via land and air was emphasized. The parties also welcomed the restoration of Mashhad-Dushanbe flights as a factor in the development of bilateral relations and spoke in favor of resuming flights between the capitals of the two countries.
Utilizing the capabilities of the Iranian seaport of Chabahar to increase imports and exports of goods in the region was one of the main points of the discussion.
