Voter Turnout for the Presidential Election Reaches 20.70%

DUSHANBE, 11.10.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – Voter turnout has reached 20.70% (or 1 million 23 thousand 430 people) as of 09:00 local time, said member of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan (CCER) Mahfirat Khidirzoda.
There are 3,375 polling stations open today, including 39 abroad. As many as 4,943,289 million Tajiks are eligible to vote.
“The necessary conditions have been created in all polling stations for democratic, transparent and open elections. Also, all sanitary measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the caronavirus infection in accordance with the procedures established by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population,” Khidirzoda said.
The CCER has accredited, 15,108 national and 159 international observers, including from the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and international and regional organizations such as the CIS Executive Committee, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State, the staff of Dushanbe – based diplomatic missions, including the People’s Republic of China, the United States, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Japan, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the Federal Republic of Germany, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine.
In order to cover the election process CCER has accredited 267 representatives of home media and 37 foreign media staff and journalists.
The election officially will end today at 20:00.
