Dushanbe Hosts the SCO Women’s Forum

DUSHANBE, 11.06.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, the National Library hosted the III Women’s Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) with the participation of representatives of the SCO member states and invited guests from among politicians, business circles, science and civil society.
According to the Chairwoman of the Committee for Women and Family Affairs Khilolby Kurbonzoda, the forum’s main goal is to further promote gender equality and empowerment of women and girls at the SCO level, as well as efforts to create an effective platform for building the potential of women in SCO members to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, regional cooperation and help to find new points of contact in addressing important issues of the Beijing Platform for Action.
As part of the forum, a plenary session was held on the topic Institutions for strengthening the role of women in the SCO participating countries and four panel sessions on the topic: Improving cooperation on gender issues within the SCO, Strengthening the competence of women in the development of entrepreneurship, Results of actions to combat all types of violence against women and girls in family and society, exchange of experience and successful experience in this direction, as well as identification of further priorities and Uniting women’s forces in response to global and regional challenges.
The holding of such forums can give a good result, since within their framework it is possible to find ways to solve topical issues related to women in the modern period.
The Deputy of Representatives Assembly Idigul Kosimzoda noted that from the first days of gaining independence, in order to support women and girls a number of programs, laws and concepts have been developed and adopted in Tajikistan, as well as established their practical implementation, the results of which were clearly expressed by the representatives of Tajikistan at the forum.
The forum was attended by representatives of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, the SCO Secretary General, representatives of Kazakhstan, China, India, Pakistan and Russia took an online part of the forum.
The draft joint statements by the participants of the event and the Action Plan were discussed and prepared at the forum.
It was also suggested that the SCO members develop a national mechanism for promoting women in each country participating in the Organization for the Development of Women’s Entrepreneurship, increase the proportion of women in the number of heads of large enterprises and company shareholders, and develop recommendations to reduce any kind of violence against women and girls in the family and society.
Also, recommendations were given to increase the proportion of women in the parliaments of the member states (SCO), in the posts of ministers, leaders, law enforcement and judicial bodies.
