DUSHANBE, 13.07.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On the sidelines of the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Vladimir Norov. The meeting took place on July 13 in the Palace of the Nation.

The preparation for the jubilee meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe was the main focus of the meeting agenda.

President Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan is consistently implementing previous measures aimed at further developing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and utilizing its full potential within its presidency of the SCO in 2021.

The discussion also touched upon regional security, the current situation in Afghanistan, strengthening the state border of Tajikistan with Afghanistan, as well as joint fight against international terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking, cybercrime, and transnational organized crime.

They also stressed that the organization needs to establish practical cooperation in the field of security with the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center, and UN’s specialized agencies.

Discussing the current status and prospects of Tajikistan, and other SCO member nations, they noted the necessity of strengthening ties in economy, energy, industry, banking, and humanitarian spheres.
