The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is in Dushanbe to take part in a session of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Pressing issues related to bilateral cooperation and the course of implementation of agreements reached during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Tajikistan were the main items of the agenda.
President Rahmon made special mention of Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s personal contribution in the development of mutually beneficial strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the steady development and expansion of friendly relations, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership between the two nations.
The counterparts also discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, focusing on trade and economic and security collaboration. They highlighted the fruitful work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the holding of an interregional investment forum in Tajikistan.
While discussing regional security, the officials touched upon the current military and political situation in the neighboring Afghanistan.
A constructive exchange of views also took place on other issues of mutual interest.
