Tajik Permanent Representative to the UN Emphasizes the Importance of the Provision of Direct Humanitarian Assistance to the Afghan Population

DUSHANBE, 18.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On October 15, the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations Jonibek Hikmat met with UNICEF Deputy Executive Director for Programmes Omar Abdi.
The meeting focused on areas of cooperation between Tajikistan and UNICEF.
The parties paid particular attention to the process of drafting a new country program document for Tajikistan.
They also touched upon the organization of the preconference event which will be held on the sidelines of the Dushanbe Water Conference in 2022.
Additionally, they discussed the enhancement of the partnership between Tajikistan and UNICEF in order to build resilience against the pandemic.
The parties exchanged views on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, especially the rights of women and girls, and emphasized the importance of the provision of direct humanitarian assistance to the population of Afghanistan and the need to strengthen international cooperation to halt the humanitarian catastrophe.
