DUSHANBE, 14.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The situation in Afghanistan poses a threat not only to Tajikistan, but also to the entire post-Soviet space. This was stated yesterday by the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov during his participation in the meeting of the heads of security and intelligence services of the CIS countries, reports Russian news agency Sputnik.

“We believe that the current situation in Afghanistan poses a real threat not only to the security of Tajikistan and the countries of Central Asia, but to the entire post-Soviet Union, especially regions with a Muslim population,” he said.

According to Yatimov, there is a “concrete desire” to use the Islam as a basis for destabilizing the situation in the region.

The meeting was held in Moscow yesterday between the special services of Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, and Turkmenistan.

The situation in Afghanistan escalated in early August, when the last US forces left the country, and the Taliban (terrorist movement banned in Tajikistan, Russia and other countries) stepped up their offensive against Afghan government forces.
