UNESCO Regional Director Notes Tajikistan’s Role in Raising Awareness of Environmental Problems

DUSHANBE, 06.12.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The proposal to protect Tajikistan’s natural sites for inclusion in the World Heritage Register and the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves was discussed at the meeting between the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection Bahodur Sheralizoda and the UNESCO Regional Director Christa Pikat in Dushanbe.
The parties also discussed issues related to UNESCO’s participation in the creation of the International Glacier Protection Fund and the declaration of 2025 as the International Year for the Preservation of Glaciers.
Pikat praised Tajikistan’s important role in the region in raising awareness of cross-border environmental problems.
