Delegations of the Tajik and Azerbaijani National Assemblies Hold Meeting in Baku

DUSHANBE, 03.03.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, Speaker of the National Assembly, Chairman of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova in Baku.
The meeting focused on the current state and prospects of inter-parliamentary relations and prospects for cooperation.
Rustam Emomali emphasized that Tajikistan attaches great importance to traditionally friendly relations and the expansion of multifaceted interstate cooperation with Azerbaijan, which were achieved as a result of regular political dialogue at the highest level.
Rustam Emomali noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan has intensified, which was facilitated by the creation of Friendship Groups.
He also said that the cooperation agreement between the two assemblies, which will be signed during the official visit, will create an additional basis for further strengthening and improving the content of inter-parliamentary relations.
Rustam Emomali emphasized that Tajikistan pays special attention to strengthening contacts with representatives of the Azeri parliament within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
An exchange of views also took place on issues of regional and international cooperation between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan, and their level was positively assessed, especially within the UN.
In connection with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan, the parties considered it necessary to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, covering 59 documents.
During the discussion of issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the officials proposed to hold joint cultural events within the framework of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The parliamentarians also touched upon the state and prospects of cooperation between the two countries and considered it necessary to strengthen the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
In particular, they noted the importance of the construction and transport sectors, telecommunications, energy, industry, and investments in the implementation of projects to create joint ventures by the Azeri side as priority areas for further cooperation.
The parties also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan in order to ensure security in the region as part of the joint fight against global threats such as terrorism, extremism, and transnational organized crime.
Following the meeting, Rustam Emomali invited Sahiba Gafarova to pay an official visit to Tajikistan at a convenient time.
The parties also signed an agreement between the National Assembly of Tajikistan and the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.
