Turkey Intends to Open Representative Offices of Its Commercial Banks in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 30.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) — Turkey intends to open representative offices of its commercial banks in Tajikistan. These and other issues related to the expansion of banking cooperation were discussed in Dushanbe at a meeting of the Chairman of the National Bank Hokim Kholikzoda with the Ambassador of Turkiye to Tajikistan Emre Zeki Karagol.
Kholikzoda briefed the Ambassador on the macroeconomic situation and the banking system of the country, and also drew attention to the issues of the protocol of the eleventh meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, including on strengthening relations in the banking sector in order to develop trade and economic relations.
The meeting focused on issues of expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkiye in the banking system, especially central (national) banks, exchange of experience between banks, strengthening cooperation between commercial banks by opening correspondent accounts, as well as cooperation in the field of Islamic banking.
The parties exchanged views on the possibility of opening representative offices of Turkish commercial banks in Tajikistan.
Karagol welcomed the desire of the National Bank of Tajikistan to expand cooperation in the banking system, along with this, considering it important to expand cooperation in the areas of trade and tourism in economic relations.
The parties expressed interest in further strengthening effective cooperation and continuing meetings and dialogues towards the development of the country’s banking system.
