President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon Receives UN GA President Abdulla Shahid

DUSHANBE, 26.08.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid.
The meeting took place in the Palace of the Nation in Dushanbe.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN and its institutions.
They also focused on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and Its Sustainable Development Goals, as well as some international topics.
Emphasizing the effective role of the UN in international affairs, especially ensuring sustainable development, building and promoting peace and stability, President Rahmon expressed his gratitude for the organization’s support of Tajikistan’s global initiatives.
Tajikistan’s special contribution in promoting and implementing UN’s programs was noted.
The officials also discussed the issues regarding establishing UN’s Global Crisis Response Group on Food, Energy and Finance, holding The Transforming Education Summit, World Social Summit, Summit of the Future and the Water Agenda.
An exchange of opinions took place regarding climate change, water-related hazards, global warming and melting of glaciers, as well the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Protection and International Day of Glacier Protection, and the establishment of International Glacier Protection Fund.
The parties emphasized the importance of the UN member nation’s cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking, and cross-border organized crime.
They reviewed in detail the situation in Afghanistan and noted the necessity of broadening cooperation of the international community, including the continuation of humanitarian aid to the people of this country.
The Tajik side emphasized its readiness to make extensive use of its logistical capabilities to provide such assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
