Tajikistan’s Global Initiatives to Protect Glaciers Discussed in New York

DUSHANBE, 20.09.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On September 19, on the sidelines of the High Level Week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Rabab Fatima.
The parties exchanged views on cooperation between Tajikistan and the Group of Landlocked Developed Countries, especially in water, energy, transport, as well as socio-economic and environmental areas, achievements and problems of these countries, as well as the implementation of major regional projects.
Muhriddin highlighted President Emomali Rahmon’s global initiatives to declare 2025 as the International Year for the Protection of Glaciers and the creation of the International Glacier Protection Fund under the auspices of the UN.
