DUSHANBE, 12.09.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova in a ceremony held in the Palace of the Nation.

President Rahmon emphasized that Tajikistan attaches importance to the development of interstate cooperation with Azerbaijan and expressed his satisfaction over the traditions of friendship and cooperation between the states, reliable political dialogue, including at the summit levels, and  inter-parliamentary ties.

He also expressed satisfaction with the present bilateral economic, trade, humanitarian, and educational cooperation.

The discussion continued on intensifying the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the adoption of the Action Plan for economic cooperation until 2025.

The exchange of opinions also took place on issues of expanding cooperation between the countries in promising joint projects, in particular industrial cooperation, mining, processing, and between the companies TALCO and Azeraluminium.    

Strengthening cooperation in the fields of agriculture, investment, transportation, communication, tourism, and restoration of direct flights between Dushanbe and Baku were noted as vital. In discussing the issue of international cooperation, including within the UN and SCO, the two sides paid particular attention on supporting each other’s initiatives, in particular   Tajikistan’s global water initiatives, Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement, establishment of a Contact Group on Combating the Coronavirus, and on reviewing the initiative proposal of Azerbaijan for observer status in the SCO during Tajikistan’s presidency.
