Tajik President’s Initiative to Declare 2025 as the Year of Glacier Protection Discussed in Lodz

DUSHANBE, 02.12.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, in Lodz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin participated and addressed the side event “Climate Change and Security in Mountain Regions,” which was held on the margins of the OSCE 29th Ministerial Council.
Muhriddin emphasized significant increase in number of extreme natural phenomena in the region and Tajikistan, which causes serious damage to the population and the economy of the country.
He also noted the ever-increasing impact of climate change on the environmental situation in the country, as well as the high volume of glacier melting and called on the international community to support the next initiative of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to declare 2025 as the Year of Glacier Protection.
