Tajikistan Strengthens Cooperation in Combating Drug Trafficking with Russia and Saudi Arabia

DUSHANBE, 15.03.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, on the sidelines of the 66th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, Director of the Drug Control Agency of Tajikistan Habibullo Vohidzoda met with Russian Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Andrey Khrapov.
The meeting focused on important issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the field of combating drug trafficking, the exchange of information on the detention of citizens of states on charges of involvement in drug trafficking, the situation with drug smuggling on the Tajik-Afghan border and strengthening border control.
It was also discussed the process of preparation for signing an agreement between the Drug Control Agency of Tajikistan and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs on cooperation and assistance to the Agency in the field of combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, which is under consideration by the Russian side.
Vohidzoda also met with the head of the delegation of the Saudi Arabia Mohammed Al-Qarni.
The meeting focused on issues of strengthening cooperation in the fight against illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and chemical precursors, control over their legal circulation, as well as prevention of drug addiction.
Along with this, the parties raised the issue of expanding the legal and contractual framework for cooperation and expressed their readiness to sign an agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Government of Saudi Arabia on cooperation in the fight against smuggling and illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and chemical precursors.
Tajik delegation headed by the Vohidzoda is in Vienna to participate in the 66th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs.
