DUSHANBE, 23.05.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On the sidelines of the high-level meeting on the mid-term review of the Sendai framework on disaster risk reduction, bilateral meetings of the Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Bahodur Sheralizoda with the Director of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Paola Albrito, Chief of the UNDRR Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia Octavian Bivol, and Director of the International Relations Department of the UN Environmental Program, Jamil Ahmad, were held.
During these meetings, the parties discussed the successful convening of the UN Water Conference, the synergy of the global water agenda and natural disasters, the importance of implementing the goals and objectives of the Sendai framework for disaster risk reduction, and emphasized the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation. In addition, on the margins of the Sendai Framework meeting, the CEP Chairman participated and delivered remarks in the side event entitled «Scaling up Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction in Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs)» organized by UNDRR, UN Office for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLC) and the Permanent Mission of Botswana chairing the Group of LLDCs.
During his speech, B. Sheralizoda highlighted the impact of global challenges, specifically climate change and the risk of natural disasters on LLDC countries and the need to take concrete actions to improve this situation. Also, experience regarding the measures taken by Tajikistan in the implementation of the Sendai Framework and the Vienna Action Program was shared.
