DUSHANBE, 09.10.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – The strongest earthquakes in Afghanistan, which caused significant loss of life and destruction, evoked deep sorrow and sympathy in the hearts of the people of Tajikistan. This is said in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
In these tragic hours of ordeal, Tajikistan empathizes with the people of Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan expresses its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
Recall that the death toll as a result of several earthquakes in western Afghanistan has risen to 2,053 people. Another 9,240 people were injured and 1,340 houses were destroyed in the earthquakes that struck Herat province and the neighboring provinces of Badghis and Farah on Saturday.
Afghanistan was hit by two magnitude 6.2 earthquakes on Saturday, followed by several aftershocks.
The first quake occurred at about 11:10 local time, forcing people to flee their homes.
