This was stated today following a meeting with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Saudi Fund for Development Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad.
“Today I had a fruitful meeting with the President Emomali Rahmon. We discussed financing of the Roghun HPP project from the SSaudi Fund for Development. As part of the working visit to Tajikistan, a ceremony will be held to sign the Agreement on financing the Roghun HPP in the amount of $100 million,” emphasized Al-Marshad.
He noted that various aspects of cooperation were also discussed, as well as reminded that the Fund has been operating in Tajikistan since 2002. The total amount of funding from the Saudi Fund for Development in various sectors of Tajikistan today is about $300 million.
According to him, the Saudi financing of this extremely important regional project is carried out on the basis that Saudi Arabia is interested in developing fruitful cooperation with Tajikistan, especially in the field of development.
“The Roghun hydropower project is considered one of the most important regional projects, since this project at full capacity in the future with an electricity production of 3.6 gigawatts will make a significant contribution to the development of not only Tajikistan, but also the Central Asian states and other neighboring countries of Tajikistan “, emphasized Sulton Abdulrahmon Al-Marshad.
The Fund CEO added this project (Rogun HPP), along with the fact that it makes a great contribution to the development of a green economy, also helps prevent the consequences of climate change. «In this context, we attach great importance to the Roghun HPP project and will always be close to Tajikistan to implement this project. We will continue to invest in this project together with other partners and development funds. We hope that in the near future, with funding from other development partners, this project will be implemented and we will take part in its full commissioning ceremony,” mentioned Al-Marshad.
