DUSHANBE, 29.07.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – On July 29, at the Palace of the Nation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, received the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for General Assembly and Conference Management Movses Abelian.

The meeting focused on issues of multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations, including on water and climate issues.

“We express our gratitude to you for your constructive cooperation, including in organizing thematic conferences, primarily on water and climate issues in our country under the auspices of the United Nations,” the President of the country, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, said at the beginning of the conversation.

It was emphasized that “Tajikistan stands for further strengthening the role of the United Nations in international affairs and considers its efforts to strengthen global understanding in the name of preserving peace, stability and development very important.”

The adoption of 10 resolutions on Tajikistan’s proposals and the support of our country’s international initiatives by Organization’s member states were called the result of fruitful cooperation between the parties.

The parties exchanged views on the further promotion of the Dushanbe Water Process and the holding of the UN Water Conference in the capital of Tajikistan in 2028 and the final comprehensive discussion within its framework of the implementation of the goals of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”.

The parties also held a fruitful dialogue on other issues of mutual interest.
