President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon attends opening ceremony of the Water for Climate Pavilion

DUSHANBE, 12.11.2024 /NIAT “Khovar”/. On November 12, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, took part and spoke at the opening ceremony of the Water for Climate Pavilion in Baku, Azerbaijan.

President Emomali Rahmon emphasized that water and climate are closely related, and the management and rational use of water plays a key role in the process of solving climate problems.

It was pointed out that in a short period of time, the topic of water covered the main content sections of climate-related conferences.

In the opinion of our Head of State, the climate conferences in Glasgow, Sharm El Sheikh and Dubai undoubtedly contributed to this process.

It was said that our country has been steadily and actively promoting water issues on the global development agenda for more than two decades. At the same time, Tajikistan, taking into account the close connection of water and climate agendas, is constantly paying attention to finding a special place for the topic of water in the process of official negotiations of climate conferences.

Honorable Head of State Emomali Rahmon stated that Tajikistan, together with its partners, has pursued this topic within the framework of the High-Level Panel on Water and Climate, the United Nations Water Conference in 2023, «Dushanbe Water Process» and other important international platforms.

It was mentioned that the joint efforts of interested parties can create a good basis for solving the water and climate problems.

Honorable President of the country Emomali Rahmon drew the attention of the participants of the event to one of the important aspects of the topic of water and climate – rapid melting of glaciers.

It was emphasized that the preservation of glaciers has become an important issue of the world agenda.

«At the initiative of Tajikistan, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 2025 as the «International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation». According to the resolution adopted in this regard, the «International Trust Fund for the Preservation of Glaciers» was established, and Tajikistan was one of the first to make a financial contribution to this Fund,” — said the Honorable Head of State Emomali Rahmon.

Also, it was informed that based on this resolution of the United Nations, Tajikistan will hold a High-level Conference on the preservation of glaciers in May 2025 in the city of Dushanbe.

President Emomali Rahmon stressed that the purpose of holding this high-level conference is to raise the level of awareness, share information and attract more attention of the international community to the solution of these problems, and show the nexus of water and climate issues.
