High-Level Side Event on Glaciers’ Preservation Held in Paris at the Initiative of Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 13.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 12, at the initiative of Tajikistan, and in cooperation with the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO, a high-level side event entitled “From the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation to the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences 2025–2034” was held in Paris.
The event was organized within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme and aimed to promote international efforts in the field of cryospheric science and glacier preservation.
During the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin delivered a statement in which he informed participants about the outcomes of the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, which was held in Dushanbe from 29 to 31 May 2025, under the initiative of the Government of Tajikistan and in partnership with UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The side event emphasized the critical role of glaciers in the global climate system and the urgent need for their preservation.
Particular attention was drawn to the adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration on Glaciers’ Preservation, which calls for enhanced international scientific cooperation and sustained investment in cryospheric research and climate resilience.
