Presidents of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan discuss development of a “Roadmap” for 2026–2028

DUSHANBE, 05.08.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On August 5, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met with the President of Turkmenistan, Honorable Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in Avaza on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

The meeting discussed a range of issues of cooperation between the two countries and the agenda of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Countries.

The Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized that we attach constant importance to further strengthening relations with Turkmenistan.

Active support for interstate political dialogue and the expansion of interparliamentary ties was highlighted.

Particular attention was paid to the issue of enhancing trade and economic cooperation, investment, including in the fields of agriculture, industry, oil and gas, and transport and communications.

To increase trade volumes, it was proposed that the two sides develop and implement a “Roadmap” for 2026-2028.

It was also suggested to actively use the opportunities of the Intergovernmental Commission to develop trade and economic relations.

It was noted that the establishment of regular flights between the capitals remains an important issue.

Fostering the ties in the sectors of health, education, culture, youth and sports was another topic of discussion.

Regarding international and regional interaction, the parties supported further strengthening cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and its institutions, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Consultative Meeting of Heads of State of Central Asia.
