On January 16, 2026, Jonibek Hikmat, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations met with Rabab Fatima, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative of the United Nations for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (LLDC).
According to the Tajik MFA Information Department, during the meeting, the sides exchanged views on strengthening coordination and solidarity among landlocked developing countries in the context of ongoing United Nations system reforms, with particular attention to the implementation of the Awaza Programme of Action. The discussion also highlighted the significance of Tajikistan’s initiatives on global policy platforms, including the increasing prominence of glacier- and water-related issues.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Permanent Representative extended an official invitation to Rabab Fatima to participate in the Fourth Dushanbe Water Conference, scheduled to take place from 25 to 28 May 2026.
