A Danish water sector expert praised Tajikistan’s organization of an international water conference and called Dushanbe a key venue for global dialogue on water cooperation and sustainable development.
Louise Heegaard, who is attending the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” said she was impressed by the city, the conference organization and the hospitality of the Tajik people.
“This is my first time in Tajikistan, and I am truly impressed by the level of organization of the international conference, the beauty of Dushanbe, and the hospitality of the Tajik people,” she told NIAT Khovar.
Heegaard, who represents the Danish organization DHI, said such gatherings are important for Central Asia and the wider global community, particularly ahead of upcoming U.N. meetings on water, climate and sustainable development.
She said Tajikistan plays a key role in bringing together international partners for dialogue on innovation, water cooperation and sustainable resource management.
“It is crucial that Tajikistan brings together representatives from different countries and international organizations for an open dialogue,” she said, adding that DHI is engaged in work on transboundary water cooperation and water-sector innovation.
Heegaard also praised Tajikistan’s global environmental initiatives and the role of the “Dushanbe Water Process,” calling it an example of leadership in international water diplomacy.
Beyond the conference, she described Dushanbe as a clean and welcoming city, noting its modern architecture, public spaces and cultural events, including a water festival.
