DUSHANBE, 14.07.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – A significant rise in air temperatures is expected across Tajikistan from July 15 to 18, with temperatures forecast to range from 33°C to 46°C, according to the country’s Hydrometeorology Agency.

The agency reported that during this period temperatures in lowland areas are expected to reach 41°C–46°C, while foothill and mountainous regions may experience temperatures of 33°C–38°C. In Darvoz District of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, temperatures are forecast at 39°C–41°C.

Due to the temperature increase, glacial floods are expected in foothill and mountainous areas of the Districts under Central Government Jurisdiction, Sughd Province and western parts of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.

Rising water levels are also forecast in the basins of the Panj, Zarafshan and Vakhsh rivers.

Authorities recommend that residents limit outdoor activities between 11:00 and 16:00 during the hot days. Citizens are advised to drink sufficient amounts of water, liquid meals, fruit drinks and juices, while avoiding excessive consumption of sugary and alcoholic beverages.

Medical specialists recommend wearing light clothing made from natural fabrics during periods of extreme heat. Parents are advised to ensure children consume enough fluids during episodes of diarrhea and acute respiratory viral infections, as vomiting and diarrhea can lead to significant fluid loss and dehydration.

In recent years, climate change has contributed to more frequent extreme heat waves, posing serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as elderly people, pregnant women and individuals with chronic illnesses.

Residents are advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight and spend more time in cool indoor environments. If symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, anxiety, excessive thirst or headache occur, people should seek medical assistance from local healthcare providers or emergency services as soon as possible.
