UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres: “The general message of Navruz is solidarity, peace, friendship, human dignity and prosperity for all”
DUSHANBE, 23.03.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On March 21, a solemn meeting on the occasion of the International Day of Navruz was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event was attended by the permanent representatives of the UN member states, Heads and experts of various UN structures, as well as citizens and students of Tajikistan, MFA Information Department reports.
According to the source, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his congratulatory speech, quoting the words of the Tajik poet Nosiri Khusrav, stressed that «the general message of Navruz is solidarity, peace, friendship, human dignity and prosperity for all.»
“The greeting message addressed to the peoples celebrating Navruz was also delivered by the President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson. The message of congratulation from the Director-General of UNESCO was also read out to the guests by Marie Paul Rudil, Head of the UNESCO Office in New York”, adds the source.
The participants of the ceremonial meeting were congratulated by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov. He noted the international significance of the ancient holiday of Navruz as an ambassador of peace, friendship and harmony. A short documentary film «Navruz of Tajikistan» was demonstrated to the participants of the meeting.
