Foreign Minister Aslov attended the High-level event “Climate change and the Sustainable Development Agenda”
DUSHANBE, 27.03.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On March 23, at the UN headquarters in New York the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov participated and addressed the High-level SDG action event “Climate change and the Sustainable Development Agenda”.
According to the MFA Information Department, in his statement, the Foreign Minister informed the participants on the country’s recent completion of ratification of the Paris Agreement, which creates a solid foundation for the subsequent joint actions in addressing climate change. The Foreign Minister noted the ever-increasing impact of climate change on the environmental situation in the country, as well as the negative impact of climate change on the quantity and quality of water resources.
Minister Aslov further emphasized the importance of approval of adaptation measures, which constitute a significant component of sustainable development and mentioned that Tajikistan adopted the National Development Strategy until 2030 and the National Action Plan to mitigate the effects of climate change. The National Strategy for Adaptation to climate change is under consideration and it gives due consideration to environmental protection and adaptation to climate change.
