Foreign Minister of Tajikistan attended the UN Security Council briefing and held a number of meetings
DUSHANBE, 19.01.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/. On January 18, in the United Nations Headquarters, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov attended the United Nations Security Council briefing entitled “Non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction: Confidence building measures”, which was held under the Kazakhstan Presidency. NIAT “Khovar” has been reported by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the source, on this day Sirodjidin Aslov also held a number of meetings. In particular he met with his Kyrgyz counterpart Erlan Abdyldaev. During the meeting, the parties had an exchange of views on the key issues of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as multilateral cooperation of both countries in the framework of the United Nations.
Then, Tajik Foreign Minister held a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin. The meeting discussed the issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN, in particular with the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), as well as exchanged views on global water issues and timely implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The two parties also discussed the forthcoming International Conference on the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for sustainable development, 2018-2028”, which will be held in Dushanbe on June 2018.
Later on this day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov met with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Achim Steiner. The discussed the issues of cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with the UNDP, including implementation of the UNDP projects directed at the social and economic development of Tajikistan, as well as assistance of UNDP in implementation of sustainable development programs of Tajikistan.
