Tajikistan Chaired the OSCE Discussions on the Norms and Commitments of Interstate Relations in the Politico-Military Sphere
DUSHANBE, 13.06.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan chaired the eighth annual discussion of OSCE participating states’ implementation of the Code of Conduct on Politico-Military Aspects of Security yesterday in Hofburg, Vienna.
This event, which was an integral part of the program of Tajikistan’s chairmanship in the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC), was conducted in continuation of the previous seven discussions held under the FSC auspices since 2012, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Addressing the opening session of the discussion, the FSC Chairperson and the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the OSCE Idibek Kalandar noted that the main task of the current meeting is to maintain the work aimed at further development of norms and commitments of the interstate relations in the politico-military sphere guided by the Helsinki Final Act (1975), the Charter of Paris for a New Europe (1990) and the Helsinki Document (1992).
In this regard Kalandar emphasized that Tajikistan attaches great importance to the code’s proper implementation, and added that the country actively participates in the Annual Military Information Exchange.
The discussion consisted of two working sessions, which provided the OSCE participating states with a platform for the exchange of views on ways to improve the efficiency and better implementation of the Code of Conduct.
As an outcome of the discussion, it was decided that Tajikistan, as the current FSC Chair, would provide a report within one month, with a survey of suggestions and recommendations made during the meeting.
