Election 2020: Chairman of the Tajik Central Commission for Elections and Referenda Meets with OSCE/ODIHR Evaluation Mission
DUSHANBE, 10.12.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda met with the evaluation mission of OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in Dushanbe.
The meeting took place as a step toward the preparation for the upcoming Supreme Assembly election scheduled for March 1, 2020 by the presidential decree dated on December 4, 2019.
The meeting focused on cooperation in the field of elections, preparation for the election of the Supreme Assembly, introducing amendments and additions to the electoral law, as well as mutually beneficial cooperation between CCER and OSCE/ODIHR.
Khudoyorzoda informed the OSCE/ODIHR representatives about the preparations carried out by the CCER in order to organize this important political campaign at a high organizational level.
The CCER in collaboration with relevant ministries and departments has established training courses for electoral experts.The training seminars clarified the requirements of the electoral legislation and other important aspects of preparing for and conducting the elections.
The seminars which were carried out in all the cities and districts of the country in two stages, began in May and ended in December. The CCER also developed, approved and published a number of instructions and procedures.
Khudoyorzoda emphasized that during the pre-election preparations the website of the CCER was improved, which contains normative legal acts, resolutions, a calendar plan, official communications and other relevant documents.
The parties also exchanged views on the participation of international observers, including from OSCE/ODIHR, openness and transparency of elections, as well as the expansion of cooperation on the basis of international acts relating to the elections recognized by Tajikistan.
