Working Group Gets Acquainted with Tourism Infrastructure in GBAO
DUSHANBE, 06.07.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – A working group headed by the Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development under the government of Tajikistan Shirin Amonzoda visited the cities and districts of Darvoz, Vanj, Rushon, Shugnon, Ishkoshim, Khorog and Murgob.
The working group consisted of international experts and GBAO officials.
The discussion centered around improving the quality of infrastructure, including hotels, hostels, guest houses, restaurants, resorts, lack of experienced professionals, meeting the requirements of sanitary and hygienic conditions, creating conditions for the provision of tourism services, promotion the region’s tourism potential outside the country, activating tourist routes, establishing effective local tourism companies, the state of cleanliness of tourist sites, and promoting tourism opportunities through social network sites.
The working group also visited the Fedchenko glacier, Garm-Chashma spring, Avj, Yamchun, Jelondeh, Bibi Fotima Zahro, tourist trails, Bulun-Kul and other places.
Yamchun Fortress will be reconstructed with the government’s support and the World Bank’s capital. The group also visited this site and talked with officials in the field of infrastructure development and the involvement of experienced specialists and guides to scientifically substantiate the presentation of historical and cultural sites.
The Pamir Ecological and Cultural Tourism Association (PECTA) was established in the region with the Committee’s support, which unites more than ten economic entities and individual entrepreneurs in the field of tourism. In accordance with the established procedure, 44 economic entities of the region have been issued tourist licenses.
Currently there are 17 travel agencies in Khorog, three in Shugnon, five in Rushon, 14 in Murgob, two in Darvoz, two in Ishkoshim and one in Vanj.
There are also more than 50 hotels and guesthouses, six sanatoriums.
Based on the analysis of the industry and the existing problems, the working group made specific recommendations to the relevant agencies to pay special attention to the tourism sector as a priority.
GBAO is one of the most attractive tourist destinations and is famous for its rivers, lakes, mountains and unique landscapes, including Lake Sarez, Garm-Chashma, Avj, Yamchun, Jelondeh, Bibi Fotima Zahro, the highest mountains and the Pamir glaciers.
