Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission Discuss Tajik-Kyrgyz Relations

DUSHANBE, 25.08.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – A telephone conversation was held between Deputy Prime Minister Azim Ibrohim and Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akram Madumarov who are the co-chairs of the Tajik-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission for the Comprehensive Review of Bilateral Issues. The conversation took place at Ibrohim’s initiative.
The parties discussed the issues of delimitation and demarcation of the border. It was noted that it is important to constantly conduct, on the basis of the provisions of the signed agreements and protocols of intergovernmental commissions, preventive and explanatory work with the population in border areas until the state border is fully legalized.
Particular emphasis was placed on the relevance of compliance with the relevant provisions of the agreement between the countries of Central Asia on cooperation in the field of joint management and protection of water resources of interstate sources and prevention of unilateral actions affecting the interests of the other side.
The officials were unanimous in their opinion on the need to intensify the work of the commission and expressed mutual readiness to advance constructive negotiations in the spirit of mutual understanding and good-neighborly relations of friendship and cooperation between the two states.
