CIS Observer Mission: Presidential Election Was Free and Transparent

DUSHANBE, 12.10.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – “Yesterday’s presidential election was open, competitive and ensured the free expression of the will of the voters of Tajikistan,» according to the representative of the CIS Observer Mission, the Chairperson of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Chairman of the commission on security, defense and crime control of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State Oleg Belokonev.
Representatives of the Observer Mission visited 487 polling stations. They were also present during the vote count.
“Observers did not record any violations that could have had an impact on the election results. The Mission believes that the election commissions of all levels, with the assistance of the authorities, ensured the conduct of the election at a high professional organizational level,» he noted.
According to the information provided by the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of Tajikistan, as of October 10, it received two complaints, which received appropriate explanations.
“During the period of preparation for the presidential election, the Prosecutor’s Office did not receive any complaints from the political parties, public organizations or citizens. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the internal affairs bodies did not register any offenses related to the election campaign. In addition, according to the Supreme Court of the republic, there have been no complaints regarding the presidential elections,» said Oleg Belokonev.
