Tajik and Kyrgyz Foreign Ministers Meet in Moscow

DUSHANBE, 02.04.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, on the sidelines of the CIS Ministerial Council meeting in Moscow, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with his Kyrgyz counterpart Ruslan Kazakbaev.
The meeting focused on the current state and prospects of Tajik-Kyrgyz cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
The ministers exchanged views on cooperation in the field of transport and use of water resources of transboundary rivers.
They also paid special attention to the issue of delimitation and demarcation of state borders.
The parties noted the need for effective and full use of the potential of the Intergovernmental commission on the delimitation and demarcation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border.
The Tajik side stated the need to continue the negotiation process, based on the documents that have passed constitutional procedures, as well as the parties’ adherence to the agreed rules for covering the results of the meetings in accordance with the regulations on the organization of work and the procedure for negotiating on the delimitation of the border.
While considering the absence of a normative legal act between the countries, regulating the issues of dual citizenship, Muhriddin raised the issue of the need to streamline the process of granting citizenship, primarily to residents of border areas.
Following the meeting, the ministers stated the importance of preserving and enhancing the centuries-old ties of friendship, good-neighborliness and brotherhood between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
