DUSHANBE, 10.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The situation at the Afghan-Tajik border remains difficult. This was announced today by the Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Nasrullo Mahmudzoda at a meeting within the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan, reports Sputnik.
According to Mahmudzoda, the terrorist threat from Afghanistan is growing.
Mahmudzoda added that Taliban’s coming to power in Afghanistan has made significant adjustments to the military-political and geopolitical situation in the region and in the world.
He stressed that Tajikistan has a long border with Afghanistan, and because of this, the country has been “at the forefront of countering the spread of threats of terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and other types of cross-border crimes in the region.”
The Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan also highlighted the need to provide international assistance to the people of Afghanistan in order to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
According to him, Tajikistan is ready to provide its logistical capabilities for the delivery of any assistance to this neighboring state and can likewise assist international organizations in this matter.
“At present, under the influence of a number of negative factors of a military-political and socio-economic nature, Afghanistan faces a serious humanitarian catastrophe and the risk of a new migration crisis is increasing,” Mahmudzoda said.
He added that due to the lack of food supplies and the approaching winter, it is important to provide support for the basic needs of the Afghan population.
According to the Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan, in the current situation there is an urgent need to mobilize the international community.
A Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan is being held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are taking part in the meeting.
“Multilateral meetings of the secretaries of the security councils on Afghan issues are important to discuss the entire range of problems related to the development of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as to develop practical measures to counter the challenges and threats emanating from the Afghan territory. We hope that the practice of holding them will continue in the future,” said the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev.
