UNESCO Highly Appreciates Tajikistan’s Role on Global Water Issues

DUSHANBE, 12.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday on the sidelines of the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences of UNESCO Shamila Nair-Bedouelle.
The parties discussed water issues and climate change. Muhriddin spoke about the productive cooperation of UNESCO in these areas. The Tajik side also called on Nair-Bedouelle to assist in cooperation of the organization in holding a high-level international conference on the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” in 2022 in Dushanbe, and promoting President Rahmon’s initiatives regarding the melting of glaciers.
In her turn, Nair-Bedouelle expressed gratitude for the efficient cooperation of Tajikistan.
The Assistant Director-General of UNESCO stated the readiness of the organization to support all the planned activities related to global water issues, which are carried out at the initiative of Tajikistan.
