PM Rasulzoda Meets with UN Under Secretary-General Waly

DUSHANBE, 29.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda met with the UN Under Secretary-General, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Fathi Waly.
The meeting focused on bilateral and multilateral cooperation within the UN and its subordinate structures. The parties expressed interest in further expanding bilateral cooperation.
Rasulzoda emphasized that the government of Tajikistan has established cooperation with the UNODC in addressing issues related to the prevention of and the fight against drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and in the protection of borders and strengthening the capacity of employees of anti-drug structures and departments.
In the 30 years since its independence, Tajikistan has been advocating for international peace and security. It has gained worldwide renown for implementing consistent measures aimed at peacekeeping.
Collaborating with its development partners, including the UN, EU, and the OSCE, Tajikistan has been putting effort into fighting terrorism and extremism, and cutting their sources of funding. Dushanbe has also hosted a high-level international conference on the topic of “Combating Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism” in 2018, and in 2019 it organized an international conference under the slogan “International and Regional Cooperation in Combating the Financing of Terrorism Through Drug Smuggling and Organized crime.”
