FM Muhriddin: Position of Tajikistan in Relation to the Taliban Remains Unchanged

DUSHANBE, 02.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – “The position of Tajikistan in relation to the Taliban has not changed,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
According to him, Tajikistan is committed to the need to create an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the participation of all ethnic groups.
“The Taliban need to show the world community their commitment to respect for human rights and freedoms,” he added.
“We continue to provide an uninterrupted supply of electricity to the northern provinces of Afghanistan and to the city of Kabul,” Muhriddin said.
He also stressed that Tajikistan will provide its logistics infrastructure, including six bridges on the Tajik-Afghan border for the delivery of humanitarian goods by international organizations. Currently, on behalf of President Emomali Rahmon, relevant ministries and departments are organizing humanitarian aid for the Afghan people.
According to Muhriddin, taking into account the growing level of challenges and threats, Tajikistan is taking the necessary measures to ensure the security and protection of its southern border.
“Today, there are 3,000 Afghan families in Tajikistan. In total about 15,000 refugees. In terms of opening the borders for the reception of Afghan refugees, we first proceed from ensuring the internal security of our country. During the period of instability in the neighboring Afghanistan, Tajikistan provided its territory to foreign partners for sending foreign citizens and citizens of Afghanistan to third countries,” Muhriddin noted.
For the first time, the proposal on the need to create an inclusive government in Afghanistan was made by the President Rahmon on August 25, 2021 in Dushanbe at a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Mahmood Qureishi.
