DUSHANBE, 25.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 25, the working visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, continued in the Darvoz district.

The highway section from the Khumb Fortress to Vanj to the Rushon gate was the first, most important and largest facility to be commissioned in this district with the participation of the Head of State, Honorable Emomali Rahmon.

The commissioning of the road took place in a festive atmosphere and spirit with the opening of the underpass.

The underpass is 3,400 meters long, 6 meters 90 cm high and 8 meters wide. The facility was built with the involvement of domestic and foreign road builders in compliance with high standards, and most of the products used are produced in Tajikistan.

The route from the Khumb Fortress to Vanj to the Rushon gate was the most difficult road in the country, and the requirements and costs for its reconstruction and maintenance increased every year.

This road connects the capital of Tajikistan — Dushanbe — with the administrative center of the Badakhshan Mountainous Autonomous Province, and Tajikistan with China.

Considering that this highway has economic and international importance, the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, laid the foundation stone for its construction and reconstruction in September 2021.

The length of this section of the highway, which crosses the territories of the Darvoz and Vanj districts, is 109 kilometers, and the construction of two tunnels with a total length of 5,200 meters has reduced this distance to 92.5 km, which is 16.5 km less than the previous distance.

Most importantly, it used to take passengers four and a half to five hours to travel this section of the road, but now, with its renovation and the construction of two tunnels, this distance will be covered in less than two hours.

During the inspection of the completed works, the Head of State Emomali Rahmon was informed that the construction standards and regulations have been included in the third technical level of roads, and its standard width is 12 meters.

The road construction project includes the construction of 15 overpasses with a length of 633 meters, 5 avalanche corridors with a length of 500 meters, 12,900 meters of iron, concrete and stone walls, as well as 200 meters of water pipes of various diameters. The high-quality and compliant construction of these facilities will eliminate the risk of floods, avalanches and rock falls. Now it is possible to travel on this route at any time of the year without feeling unsafe. The good condition of this route also laid a real foundation for saving time and fuel.

The road lights, which are illuminated by solar panels in 14 villages of the Darvoz district, have a different appearance at night.

The improvement measures on the section of the Kulob-Khorug-Kulma-China highway from the center of the Darvoz district to the Rushon gate were implemented in the context of the constant efforts of the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, to overcome the communication deadlock, with the participation of highly experienced and qualified engineers and road builders, most of whom are local specialists.

After visiting and getting acquainted with the quality of construction work, the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, highly appreciated the role of engineers and road builders in implementing one of the strategic goals — overcoming the communication deadlock, and emphasized that their training and experience will also be used in the construction of the Khorug-Kulma-China road in the near future.
