Ashgabat Hosts Press Conference on UN Resolution Declaring International Decade for Strengthening Peace

DUSHANBE, 12.07.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – A press conference highlighting the significance of the United Nations General Assembly resolution initiated by Tajikistan proclaiming the International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036) was held in Ashgabat on July 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and media outlets accredited in Turkmenistan.
Speaking at the conference, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan Vafo Niyatbekzoda emphasized the importance of the landmark international document, noting that its adoption reflects international recognition of the consistent, constructive and peace-oriented policies pursued by President of Tajikistan and Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon.
According to the Ambassador, the resolution also demonstrates the high level of confidence placed by the international community in Tajikistan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening peace, security and sustainable development.
Participants noted that the International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations will create new opportunities for practical cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives in support of peacebuilding efforts worldwide.
Representatives of the United Nations Development Programme and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Turkmenistan also addressed the event, underscoring the importance of the resolution within the context of global efforts to promote peace, sustainable development and international cooperation.
